AWP birthday event 2020

16/11/20

This year's birthday celebration was somewhat different to those gone by as AWP embarked on perhaps the most ambitious birthday event yet – trying to get 30+ engineers, an ex-marine and a rugby player together on a Zoom call.

The afternoon focused on allowing us to review, reset and recalibrate and followed on from some team coaching/discovery sessions held in October with Paul Mattin. With various challenges including team reviews and 'Lost at Sea,' we learnt that if you're stuck in the Pacific Ocean, a shaving mirror may be your best chance at survival!

The highlight of the afternoon for many was a guest appearance from Joe Simmonds, captain of the Exeter Chiefs and our sponsored player. Joe spoke about his journey into rugby, from college to captain and how he remains calm and focused during games. The floor was then opened up to the team, who asked questions ranging from strategy on the pitch to who pulls the biggest pranks.

In some final words from the directors, it was concluded that AWP will do more than just survive; we will come out of this testing time stronger and full of AWP spirit.

We rounded off the afternoon with our annual values awards which celebrate staff members who have most consistently displayed the AWP Values over the last year.

The winners were:
