"I was made to feel very welcome at AWP from the start, and was invited to numerous socials which was a great way to meet other people within the company. I am very grateful for my placement. I have come away with so much knowledge and experience, and am hoping to keep in contact with them looking forward."

Graduate Civil Engineer Vacancies

We are seeking to recruit Graduate Civil Engineers to support our growing workload.

About AWP

We are an Exeter-based, award-winning civil engineering consultancy providing specialist development planning and infrastructure services to the property industry. Now in our 10th year of operation, our team of transport planners, civil engineers and technicians has grown to over 40 strong, and we are privileged to be working on some of the most prestigious development projects in the south west.

We provide our staff with excellent opportunities to get involved in all aspects of our design work, and all of our engineers are encouraged and assisted to progress their professional qualifications through our ICE approved Training Scheme, with internal and external training opportunities being provided.

During 2022 we have again been awarded Gold accreditation by Investors in People with the assessor commenting that “AWP remains one of the strongest organisations I’ve had the pleasure to work with in relation to supporting people’s career, and encouraging them to learn new skills and achieve ICE qualification status.”

We have both office space at Pynes Hill in Exeter, and a hybrid working policy to provide flexibility and opportunities for remote home working.

AWP is a partnership as the name suggests, and we take pride in sharing our success with everybody that has contributed towards it. That’s why everybody at AWP qualifies for our quarterly profit-related bonus scheme, and we think that’s pretty unique in our industry.

Role

The varied role will allow you to gain experience in every technical discipline across the business, including detailed highway & drainage design, 3D site modelling, plot engineering, utilities strategy, flood risk assessment, foul and surface water drainage strategy and transport planning.  As well as devising engineering solutions at planning stage, you will also have the opportunity to produce infrastructure designs for technical approval and construction. You can expect to be working on a number of projects at any given time and you will report to, and be mentored by, one of our management team, all of whom are Chartered Civil Engineers.

This role is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to gain a wide range of experience at the start of a career in civil engineering consultancy and their journey to gaining professional qualifications with the ICE.

About You

You will either be a graduate with a degree in Civil Engineering, or currently working through the final year of your degree course, having achieved or expecting 2:1 or above. You will have good written and spoken communication skills and any experience with AutoCAD would be a bonus. However, full training would be provided for all aspects of the role and what we are really looking for is someone who is enthusiastic with a willingness to learn and be able to work as part of a team.

Ok, sounds good - so where do I apply?

All you need to do is drop a line to  enquiries@awpexeter.com.  A copy of your CV, together with a few words about how you could see yourself at AWP, would be great. We can then look to set up an initial chat over the phone, online or in person over a coffee.

... and finally
