Project News - Derritt Lane, Bransgore

13/05/22

We have great pleasure in reporting that the proposed residential development at Derrit Lane in Bransgore received a resolution to grant planning consent by New Forest District Council yesterday following a unanimous vote of support by councillors.

Working on behalf of our long-standing client, Wyatt Homes, and alongside architects NEW Masterplanning, AWP provided engineering support for the detailed planning application for 100 dwellings at this allocated site. Our commission included Transport Planning and Flood Risk and Drainage support, including a Transport Assessment and Framework Travel Plan, Flood Risk Assessment, surface & foul water drainage strategies. We also undertook the preliminary highway and levels design for the internal layout.

The site posed many challenges, particularly in relation to existing surface water flooding, and the drainage strategy devised by Chris’ team included a series of mitigation measures to reduce that risk both at the site and within the downstream catchment overall. This involved careful consideration of site levels and innovative design for adoptable shallow SuDS features (s104 and s38) to provide water quality enhancement, ecological and biodiversity benefits as well as freeboard allowances to manage residual greenfield runoff and exceedance flows. The strategy also includes localised works to restore the hydraulic capacity of the highway ditch and ordinary watercourse which drain through the site to reduce the impact of existing flooding on Derritt Lane.

The Local Plan policy also required the retention of the mature roadside trees along Derritt Lane which was a key consideration for the access strategy including junction positioning and associated visibility splays. The transport strategy, agreed with Hampshire County Council, also includes a package of improvements to walking and cycling infrastructure both in the vicinity of the site and the routes to school and the local centre.

Following the grant of planning permission we look forward to helping Wyatt Homes bring the scheme forward to site.
